The Impotent Right (audio)
The recent judicial reform debacle proved once again that there is no genuine rightwing movement in Israel today.
The recent judicial reform campaign was a disaster. But it was predictable as anyone with common sense could see. It was a stunt for Bibi to exploit to get elected. He never had any intention to fight for reform. Nor were his supporters willing to jump into the ring.
Heaven forbid, that might require some personal sacrifice.
Here are 5 important points to think about in the aftermath of the debacle:
The Fake Right: There is no rightwing coalition in power. Plenty of kipot to be sure, but do they govern like men of Torah? They are weak on Ishmael and weak on Esau, as unwilling to fight the Arabs as they are evangelical missionaries. Weak on moral issues like ending the scourge of abortions in Israel or fighting the LGBTQ mafia.
The Notorious Nothing: Ben Gvir is in good company with Bibi. The supposed tough guy folded like a napkin, despite his bluster. After noting that he would break the coalition if Bibi caved, he showed that all Bibi had to do was to bribe him. And it worked.
Leftist Power: The left defeated the ruling power, because Bibi & Friends are a hodgepodge of whiny big mouths with little integrity.
I Am Mamlachti, hear me roar: The religious supporters of Bibi are pathetic, and they were outmatched by the crazy left. Weeks of anarchy and protests and the best the mamlachti lemmings could do was organize ONE event at the last moment, when it was too late.
Abandon the Myth: The most rightwing coalition in Israel’s history is a myth.
Back to the drawing board.
Very correct. I wish I could just ignore politics altogether. The problem is there are such pressing issues to be dealt with, such as reforming the law of return, that politics cannot be ignored. I was very disappointed that Ben Gvir kept spitting on our great teacher Harav Kahane hyd during the campaign. Nevertheless I voted for him in the hopes that he would repeal the terrible law barring true right wingers like The Rav from running and weaken the courts so they couldn't interfere with laws such as fixes to the law of return once a true right wing government came to power.
That is the catch 22 we are in. Since Harav Kahane hyd was elected, the entire political establishment conspired to keep real right wingers who may actually deal properly with the Arab enemy out of the knesset. So by definition anyone currently in the Knesset isn't going to actually solve the Arab problem. Therefore we need to hope that we can get people in who are good enough to open the door for people who will actually solve problems. An unfortunate predicament indeed.
